Number line

WALT use a number line to solve addition and subtraction.

In maths, we have been learning to use a number line to solve different types of addition and subtraction problems. We learned to find the first number in the equation on the number line first, then hop right to solve the addition problem and left for subtraction.

I’m a Maths Guru

LI - roll two dice and add the numbers
LI - tell the time

We’ve learnt how to use two dice to add the dots together. We played a game with a buddy and took turns rolling the dice. We helped each other counting if one was stuck.

Telling the time is important. We even timed how long it took the pizza man to deliver our dessert pizza. 1 o’clock is lunch time. I know this because the bells goes at school and also in my tummy!

Measuring cups and spoons

LI - to measure using baking tools

Room 2 are getting ready for our big baking day. We used measuring cups and spoons to measure how much we needed when Mrs Christie (our student teacher) asked us 1 cup or 1/2 cup and 1 table spoon and 1 teaspoon. We also sorted the bears and their porridge from smallest to biggest.

Patterns

LI - to make a simple pattern
For maths, I am learning to recognise a pattern. A pattern repeats over and over again. It needs to stay the same. I have tried making my own pattern. Can you try and make my pattern longer?

Shape Pictures

We are learning to recognise 2d shapes in every day life.

Room 0 have been busy exploring shapes in a range of different ways.  One activity we did was to choose a range of 2d shapes and put them together to create a picture.  By doing this nga tamariki are able to see how shapes can be seen all around us every day.

"I made a house and I used squares and rectangles and a triangle", said Zara.

I am learning to add when 5 is one of the numbers

In Maths we have been learning to add numbers when 5 is one of the numbers.  To help us get faster at solving these equations we played a game called "Murtle's Turtles".

"It was easy adding the numbers because I counted my fingers."
